Developing our oracy skill was so much fun!
Oracy skills are a vital part of learning, and it is
important that we develop our speaking and listening skills from a young age.
So, this week we have tried a few new activities to help develop our listening
and speaking skills.
In reading, we have been looking at simple pictures and
discussing what could be happening in the picture. Once we have discussed our
initial thoughts, the title is then revealed to see if this gives any more
clues, the children have then had more time to discuss the picture and answer
the prompting questions. This activity proved very popular with our class, and
we look forward to developing our oracy and inference skills further.
Another activity we have done was based around giving clear instructions to their partners. Partner A had to speak clearly and give detailed instructions on how to draw the exact same house that they had drawn, and Partner B had to listen carefully and draw the house (without trying to take a sneaky peak at Partner A’s picture). The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity - they were brilliant at listening to each other and giving clear instructions.
