Developing our oracy skill was so much fun! Oracy skills are a vital part of learning, and it is important that we develop our speaking and listening skills from a young age. So, this week we have tried a few new activities to help develop our listening and speaking skills. In reading, we have been looking at simple pictures and discussing what could be happening in the picture. Once we have discussed our initial thoughts, the title is then revealed to see if this gives any more clues, the children have then had more time to discuss the picture and answer the prompting questions. This activity proved very popular with our class, and we look forward to developing our oracy and inference skills further. Another activity we have done was based around giving clear instructions to their partners. Partner A had to speak clearly and give detailed instructions on how to draw the exact same house that they had drawn, and Partner B had to listen carefully and draw the house (without tr...

Another incredibly busy week in Orion class! In DT we have been researching information about torches. As a class we compiled a list of all the equipment we would need to make our very own torch - out of paper and card of course. Independently, we then wrote out a set of instructions which we followed to make our own. As you can see we had lots of fun creating them. For our open afternoon, parents and careers were invited into school to help support us with our creative writing. During this afternoon, we designed our own settings for our 500-word writing competition. We used a range of materials and designs to create a magical setting. We cannot wait to write our own 500-word stories this week. We are now becoming masters of times tables now too! Everyday we spend time on TTRS which enables us to develop fast recall skills of our times tables (up to 12x12). If you would like to support at home with this then please encourage children to login to TTRS or go to https://www.timest...

Welcome to our class blog! Well, it has been an incredibly busy few weeks back at school, but we have thoroughly enjoyed being back - as you can see from the pictures. The children have been working so hard. This term our class novel is 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl. In writing, we have loved designing our own delicious, mouthwatering, scrumptious chocolate bars. Together as a class, we created a bank of high-level vocabulary to use in our expanded noun phrases. We have then further developed our sentences using a range of persuasive openers and conjunctions. We have then independently structured our very own persuasive advert using all the skills learned over the past three weeks - impressive right? Well, Mrs Taylor certainly thinks so! In math so far, we have been developing our knowledge of place value by looking at four-digit numbers and partitioning them. We have then been plotting ...
